EXPERIENCE

 

2005 to Present - ASI Modulex Latimer Group – IT Director

Shared between the four interest of the Latimer Group Grinnell, Omaha, Chicago, Denver.  Responsible for the support of systems, software and users of the Latimer Group.  Support the sales force for each of the locations via their systems.   Advise management of systems needs and capabilities.

 

Accomplishments – Upgraded hardware to support file servers at each location moved away from storing important files on individual workstations.   Working towards the reduction of paper files.   Building an off-site backup structure for all four sites.   Set up a font server for the Grinnell and Omaha graphic department reducing the mistakes due to font mismatches.

 

2002 to Present - ACE Advanced Communications & Electronics - Owner

Building partnerships with small businesses through better management of technology.  Providing service for computer hardware, software and networks, will build to customer specifications.  Clients include Hy Vee Corporation, Walker, Knopf & Billingsley, Newton Printing, International Wrestling Museum, and WIN Magazine.

 

1999 to 2002 - Rock Communications Ltd. - IT Director

Responsible for servers used by Accounting, Internet communications, and Graphics.  Accounting uses Windows NT, Graphics using Silicone Graphics Inc running IREX, the internet communications is supported through three Intel Systems running Linux.  Support software running on all computer systems.  Support Quark, PhotoShop, 4D, and Filmmaker databasesas well as develop new screens and forms.  Manage a graphics library of 150 gigabytes as well as the electronic photo studio that acquires those images.

 

Accomplishments - Developed a plan to keep frequently used graphics organized and online for use in layouts.  Implemented a written disaster recovery plan and formalized the backup schedules for servers.  Documented all software on systems, documented and mapped the network configuration. Planed and installed network /server expansions.  Evaluate and maintain rolling needs list for software, hardware, and upgrades.

 

1987 to 1999 - Iowa Valley Continuing Education -Telecommunications Services

Was solely responsible Continuing Education computer labs software and hardware specifying purchasing and installation.  Network design and installation.  Served as chair of the Computer Team for Continuing Education department during the transition to a new database system. Was responsible for the training, installation of new equipment in ICN video classrooms. Supervised work study and summer youth.

 

Accomplishments  - Installed and supported Quark, Photoshop, and Illustrator for the publication professionals.  Developed a process with alternative backup plans to deliver programming to large groups.  Taught the Multi media Technology class and a How-to-Class for home videographers to make the most from their footage.  Engineered the electronic compliment for the conference facility and the technologies available user friendly and cost effective.

Involved in writing the ALA (ATM Link Accelerator) test plan and reports.

 

1984 to 1987 - Grinnell College, Computer Services - Senior Computer Technician

Responsible for the installation and maintaince of all computer systems and software.   Supporting students, faculty and staff with software and hardware.

 

Accomplishments- Developed an equipment Inventory database (Datatrieve) to track all computer hardware and another database for service-call tickets. Also researched and implemented a solution for recovery from power loss for a Micom data PBX.

 

1983 to 1984 - Forbes Computer Center - Sales Consultant

Commissioned Sales of computer software and hardware.

 

1981-1983 - Oak Communications, CATV DIV - Senior Lab Technician

Worked under four Electrical engineers for product development of experimental CATV pay per view and home shopping system.  Built prototypes tested and evaluated for pre-production in preparation for full production startup.  Then monitored production for problems.

 

Accomplishments - Developed a change in testing procedures to improve integrity and reliability of product.  Designed a low-cost alternative for production testing equipment.

 

1979 to 1980 - Rockwell International / Collins Division - Test TechnicianWorked on military avionics in a production environment.
